Soldier Robert Okaka powered his way to the semi-finals of the Africa Championships defeating Morocco’s Yassir Rigui by a unanimous decision in the light-heavyweight class.
The 25-year-old Okaka now meets Namibia’s Gebhard Ipinge in the semi-finals.
After a slow start in the first round, Okaka let loose the bees towards the end of the second round, stinging the Moroccan boxer with a barrage of his lethal arsenal of punches. He subjected Rigui to a standing count after he had been also been counted which was unjustified.
The third round saw Okaka going for the kill with the crowd cheering the brave Kenyan whose heavy right punch sent the Moroccan spinning to the canvas.
“I’m happy winning my fight, In the first round I took time to study him then decided to go flat out in the remaining rounds,” said a jovial Okaka who made his international debut in last year’s Africa Championships
