Boniface “The Hammer” Mogunde (pictured) put up one of his best ever performance to become the eighth Kenyan boxer to qualify for the semi-finals of the Africa Elite Boxing Championships.
Fighting with his guard down at times but swift on footwork and eagle-eyed, Mogunde outpointed DR Congo’s Anderson Manzongo to move to the semis, and assured Kenya of its eighth medal.
For the better part of the three rounds, the DRC boxer did shadow boxing against the smarter and sharper Kenyan cop.
Mogunde now meets Morocco’s Abidine Amroug who beat Tanzania’s Saidi Kanenda in the other quarter-final bout.
