The meeting was held at the initiative of all national federations present in Kinshasa for the African Boxing Championships.
The meeting was chaired by, Mr. Bonaventure Nzigou Manfoumbi, President of the Gabonese Boxing Federation choosen as being the elder in age, with the rapporteur and translator Mr. Cyprien Tamo, the representive of the Malagasy Boxing Federation;
At the start of the meeting, the chairman requested that all present to introduce themselves. There was the presence of 32 presidents and duly authorized representatives of national federations, and the quorum was met.
Purpose of the meeting was explained as following;
The meeting was convened to examine and address pressing governance issues within the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC);
Mr. Bonaventure Nzigou Manfoumbi opened the meeting by reflecting on recent challenges in African boxing governance and the impact of activities contrary to boxing development. He stressed that unity among members is crucial and that the welfare of athletes should be the guiding principle for all federation activities.
Call to Action for Unity and Integrity in Governance:
The Chairperson emphasized that only through collective action could the trends be addressed. He underlined the need for member federations to commit to doing what is right for the athletes and the sport, despite external pressures.
Platform for Solutions:
The meeting was positioned as the sole platform capable of halting practices that hinder the development of boxing in Africa. The Chairperson urged members to prioritize constructive changes and expressed optimism that resolutions could be reached through solidarity.
Adoption of Resolutions and Preventive Measures:
Following in-depth discussions, the majority of national federations agreed on several preventive and corrective measures to safeguard the future of boxing governance in Africa. These measures, along with a public declaration of commitment, were formally adopted by 29 presidents and representatives of National federation as the expression of a vote of no confidence against President Eyassu Wossen Berhanu and are appended to these minutes under the title Statement of the National Federations Members of the AFBC Congress.
Conclusion.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to enforce these measures, which aim to restore unity, enhance transparency, and support the development of boxing in African.
