October 31, 2024.
We, the undersigned members of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Board of Directors (BoD), namely Ferdinand Ilunga Luyoyo, Zoubida Wissam, Willilo Anderson, Eric Ndayishimiye, and Anta Gueye—constituting a majority (5 out of 9) of the BoD, formally refute the assertions made by Mr. Eyassu Wossen Berhanu in his communication referenced as AFBC/396/2024, dated October 31, 2024. We categorically state that we did not participate in any meeting of the AFBC BoD that allegedly authorized the convening of an Extraordinary AFBC Congress, purportedly scheduled for 9 November 2024, in Addis Ababa.
It is unreasonable, impractical and unconstitutional to call such a significant meeting on such short notice, and the report suggesting otherwise is false, as none of us were involved in any such decision.
Another letter reference no: AFBC/324/2024 by the BOD subject: Call for proposals to Host AFBC Congress on December 2, 2024 the date of the Congress to be held is 02 December 2024.
As previously communicated through AFBC Secretary General André Basile Kalong, and as recommended by the International Boxing Association (IBA), we resolved to convene AFBC Congress to address the disorder instigated by Mr. Eyassu’s administration over the past eleven months. This Congress is scheduled to be held in Dubai on December 5-6, 2024, immediately preceding the IBA Ordinary Congress, which is set for December 7-8, 2024.
We encourage all African national federations to actively participate and register for the IBA Congress in substantial numbers.
Furthermore, we take this opportunity to reiterate that Mr. Eyassu was formally removed from the position of AFBC President following a vote of no confidence supported by more than 29 national federations, held in Kinshasa on October 24, 2024.
We advise all national federations to cease further correspondence with Mr. Eyassu, as he no longer holds any representative authority within the AFBC as of October 24, 2024.
Please rest assured that we are committed to maintaining the Confederation’s stability, with a primary focus on advancing the interests of our boxers.
We call upon all federations to stand united in addressing the detrimental actions of Mr. Eyassu’s administration and to collectively confront the challenges facing our cherished sport of boxing.
