Message of condolences to the family of George Foreman from General Ilunga Luyoyo

Kinshasa, March 22, 2025
To the George Foreman Family and The Entire World Boxing Community.

This morning, we were deeply saddened by the news of the passing of the legendary and highly respected boxing icon, George Foreman.

His loss is a tremendous blow to the global boxing community, especially to African boxing and the Congolese boxing family, where he left an unforgettable legacy.

His historic fight against Muhammad Ali in Kinshasa in 1974 was not just a sporting event but a moment of great significance, as he honoured the African people by accepting that challenge. George Foreman was a true brother to Africans, a remarkable individual, and an inspiration to young generations through his contributions to boxing worldwide.

In this moment of sorrow, on behalf of the Congolese Boxing Federation, the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) as Interim President, and the entire African boxing family, I extend my deepest condolences to the George Foreman family and the entire world boxing community.

While our thoughts and prayers are with his grieving loved ones, may the soul of our elder brother, George Foreman, rest in eternal peace.

General Ferdinand Ilunga Luyoyo
President of the Congolese Boxing Federation
AFBC Interim President
