Nigeria won two fights on June 1 and can still hope for two tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games.

  1. The Nigerian Mbata Patricia Adanma Epelle won her fight 4:1 against the Brazilian Viviane Pereira in women’s 75KG. Mbata advances to the quarterfinals on June 2 to fight Vanessa Ortiz Citlalli of Mexico. The result is a quota for Paris 2024 in women’s 75KG.
  2. Adeshina Zainab Motunrayo of Nigeria won 3:2 against Jordanian Hanan NASSAR in the women’s 50KG. Adenisha advances to the quarter-final where she will face Finnish Pihla Kaivo-Oja on June 2. Victory in this fight will grant a quota for Paris 2024 in women’s 50KG.

Malian Marine Camara won 5:0 against Elise Glynn of Great Britain in the women’s 57KG. This victory allows Camara to reach the quarter-finals where she will face the Indian Jaismine Jaismine on June 2. Victory in this fight will grant a quota for Paris 2024 in women’s 57KG.

Three African women boxers were unfortunately eliminated in the 1/8 finals. They can say goodbye to their Olympic hopes for 2024.

  • Ornella Sathoud (Ghana) was defeated 5:0 by the Colombian Shirleidis Orozco in women’s 75KG.
  • Burundian Ornella Havyarimana was beaten 5:0 by Zeynab Rahimova (Azerbaijan) in the women’s 54KG.
  • Josefien Betist of Sierra Leone lost 5:0 to Maud Van Der Toorn of the Netherlands.
