Day 10 – June 2: Brigitte Mbabi (DRC) and David De Pina (Cape Verde) snatch two tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – 2nd World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Thailand from May 24 to June 2, 2024

This second and final world qualifying tournament for boxing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ended today, Sunday June 3, 2024.

It is good to point out that unlike the first World Qualification Tournament of Busto Arsizio in Italy where African boxing did not bring in any quota, the African continent managed, this time, to snatch two additional tickets with the victories of Brigitte Mbabi of the DRC in ladies 66KG and David De Pina from Cape Verde in men 51KG.

  • Brigitte Mbabi from the DRC was trailed slightly on points by Cape Verdean Ivanusa Moreira at the end of the 2nd round. But Mbabi rectified the situation in the last round when the referee stopped the fight following a third count inflicted on Ivanusa Moreira.
  • David De Pina, Moreira’s compatriot, saved Cape Verde’s honor by beating Iranian Mahdi Parvizi 5-0.

Four boxers from Africa unfortunately failed to win their fight and left these qualifications empty-handed.

  • Ivanusa Moreira of Cape Verde lost by RSC to Brigitte Mbabi of DRC in ladies 66KG.
  • Mali’s Marine Camara lost 5:0 to India’s Jaismine Jaismine in the women’s 57KG.

The two Nigerians competing this Sunday both lost their respective fights.

  • Nigeria’s Adeshina Zainab Motunrayo lost 4:1 to Finland’s Pihla Kaivo-Oja in the women’s 50KG.
  • Mbata Patricia Adanma Epelle of Nigeria lost 5:0 to Mexican Vanessa Ortiz Citlalli in the women’s 75KG.
